Ooh! Look What I Found!

Here is a place to post new items you have found that are good for you and hopefully also tasty. For example, I just learned that I really like the whole grain version of Keebler 's Club Crackers. They are just as easy to buy, and taste almost better. They have about half of everything that's in the regular crackers (less fat, less calories, less carbs). So, give 'em a try, and enjoy!

Go ahead and add your newly discovered items to the list. You can also include things that you found a long time ago, but might be news to someone else.

If you have been eating skinless chicken breasts, here are some ways to break up the monotony:
Chicken kabobs over brown rice
(Uncle Ben's has an instant brown rice that is just great).

Try Lawrey's marinades to add flavor. There are several. Watch the sodium though.

Soy crumbles instead of brownwed ground beef. It is in the frozen foods. Pour it into spaghetti sauce and you will not know the difference.

If you are watching your cholesterol (trans-fats also called partially hydrogenated oils), try Smart Balance in place of margerine/butter. It is spreadable on bagles and firm breads.
Making these and other little changes in my eating and exercise habits, have helped me loose 14 lbs and I have gone from a size 12 to a 10 in pants in 10 months.

Here is another find.
Skippy Natural peanut butter. No trans fats/partially hydrogenated oils. Even my grand kids cannot tell the difference.

Thanks for the ideas Mom! Here's another one that is pretty simple:

Try ground turkey instead of ground beef for any recipe. It cuts back on the fat and the greasiness...

I'll be posting a recipe for turkey chili and for turkey enchiladas soon.

Okay, here is my two cents :) I too have gotten tired of boneless, skinless chicken breasts (at least the way I prepare them). I have switched to boneless, skinless chicken thighs. They have just enough fat to make them taste good even when I cook them! They are sold at Aldi and they are cheaper than the breasts per pound as well :)

Thighs will make a welcome change. How about some recipes?

Sparkling Water!

I've always been fond of Sparkling Water, but it is definitely a way to cut back on Soda, if you're trying that as part of a healthy lifestyle. I like Canada Dry and Faygo, myself, but there are many types out there. I'll add a comment in recipes, too, because there is a way to make it easier to handle if you're not an immediate fan.

If you like bacon but want less cholesterol, try the turkey bacon at Sam's Club. I cannot think of the brand, but it is the only turkey bacon they have. It is thick and very flavorful. It comes in a 3 pound package and can be divided and frozen. It will last for weeks.

Help with water would be great! I love the fizz of pop and hate the alka selter taste that many sparkling waters have. I love the vitamin water but it still has sugar in i!I am bad at drinking water but this week I began drinking ATLEAST 4 servings a day(to start)and so far so good, but anything to make it taste better will be helpful! So I am on my way to see what recipes you blogged Mykie:)

Adding a squeeze of lemon to the water can help a bit. i use Real Lemon brand. There is a water that Toofie told me about it is called Talking Rain. It already has lemon or raspberry flavor with no added sugar. I really like it,cold. It comes in a large bottle. I bought some at the dollar store behind Sam's Clubs gas station. Give it a try. If you do not like it, I will buy it from you:-)

If you have not tried Egg Beater in place of real eggs, you should give the a try. Get the small container. I especially like the chives and cheese. You can make an omlette by adding other vegetables chopped tomatoes, sliced mushrooms etc. I also add a small amount of real bacon bits, and low fat cheddar. Super breakfast.

Brownberry had a multi-grain bread(fiber) that makes great toast. I found it at Sam's club.
